When we think of people who have greatly influenced our lives, we might think of family and friends. But once we step outside our closest circles, one group of people rises to the top of the list – teachers. The best teachers are not only educators, they are treasure hunters who identify gifts and talents, they are mathematicians who magically multiply confidence with their words, and they are visionaries who see a bright future for each student. National Teachers Day is a time set aside to thank these special professionals for all they do, and Stadium Flowers is proud to be a part of celebrating our Everett teachers.
Did You Know? More than 100 different countries observe their own Teacher’s Day at various times throughout the year. The idea of Teachers Day in the United States was said to have been championed in 1944 by Mattye Whyte Woodridge. Although she petitioned numerous people in government, it was her letter to Eleanor Roosevelt which got the ball rolling. The First Lady convinced Congress in 1953 to declare an official National Teacher’s Day. Although the date has changed over the years, it is now celebrated on the second Tuesday of May, with an entire week of celebration surrounding it.
But the teachers are not the only world-changers that are recognized at the beginning of May. National Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6-12 this year – and was established here in the United States in 1954. Why celebrate nurses? These consummate professionals are the backbone of any medical facility and are by our sides during some of the most dramatic and emotional times of our lives. Combining medical expertise with boundless compassion, nurses can make a lifelong impact in only a few days. May 12, the final day of the weeklong celebration, is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, an English nurse known as the founder of professional nursing.Whether to thank teachers or recognize nurses, the fresh floral designs from Stadium Flowers are your perfect choice. With their bright vivid colors, they bring life and vibrancy to any desk – and will certainly remind these everyday heroes that they are appreciated for all they do.
