Fall Flowers

When it comes to choosing fall’s favorite flower, there’s really no contest because chrysanthemums win every year! Mums are available in just about every color of the rainbow, including all of the favorites for autumn such as red, gold, yellow, orange, and bronze. Potted varieties of these blooming beauties are in-season and will continue to fill your front porch with color throughout the fall. (Just be sure to bring them inside if there’s frosty weather in the forecast.)

For autumn, we also love pairing chrysanthemums with blooming flowers in seasonal colors such as kalanchoe, goldenrod, marigold, and lantana. You can also add depth to your floral design with leafy plants like potted croton and kale.

Pumpkins and Gourds Galore

Fall isn’t fall without lots of pumpkins — and don’t forget the gourds! Create visually interesting groups by selecting pumpkins and gourds in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes, and textures. Then place them along the entryway to your home. To ensure your pumpkins last throughout the season, we recommend refraining from hollowing them out for Halloween. Instead, you can infuse your display with playfulness and whimsy by painting your pumpkins with cute patterns or seasonal critters. Try spraying them silver or gold for an elegant take on a harvest display or paint your house numbers on a stack of pumpkins to help your house guests find the front door.

Fun Front Door

The front door is the focal point of every front porch design, so it’s important not to leave it out of your decorating. You can get creative by welcoming guests with a hanging basket of freshly picked hospitality or go for a traditional look with an autumn wreath. If your door’s design doesn’t accommodate anything hanging, then highlight your home’s main entrance by draping a seasonal wreath over your doorframe.

Autumn Accents

Transition your front porch decor by switching out spooky design accents (like bats, spiders, and ghosts) for harvest-themed items (like cornstalks, hay bales, cattails, and scarecrows). These items give your decorations personality and an element of playfulness.
